Deadzone: Veer’myn update.

I’ve posted on the Veer’myn before but having finally finished models from the faction booster I figured I’d do an update.

I was fell in love with the look of mousemen in gasmasks and protective suits, so all models that have options for gasmasks will use that head. I followed two additional guidelines on this faction. First, fur color is determined by rank (age and breed), size of scenic elements on the base (increasing with rank and base size). Basic troops have brown or white mouse fur, Specialists and leaders have light grey fur, and the large models have dark charcoal rat fur. Unfortunately, after using washes these fur colors seemed to blend away. Many models don’t have much fur in the first place.

Taking inspiration from the classic childrens’ book, Mrs. Frisby and little Timothy mouse. The broodmother is the center of any Veer’myn clan. I reposed the arms a bit and added some equipment like the shoulder-mounted worklight and power cables.

The Piper. This loner doesn’t play well with others, but he can certainly push the horde forward rapidly.

Troops

Specialists

dsc_0303
Maligni with chem spitters- rapid-fire weapons with decent range and able to defeat armor. I added tactical lights converted from worklamps.

dsc_0301
Chem throwers- flamers with volatile acids and toxins. I tried painting them reminiscent of Super Soaker squirtguns.

Nightmare “bodyguard” rat. I love the GW technical jewel paints on the eyepieces. The worklight on top was added to give the feel of converted industrial or mining equipment.

The big black rats bear the mark of NIMH: National Institute of Mental Health. They serve as Mrs. Frisby’s bodyguard.

May have gone overboard with the grime.

Miss Trudy and her pet night terror rat Crackin’. Armed with a heavy Chem spitter for fire support. Miss Trudy stands ready to whip the chains and, ahem… release the Crackin’.

Crackin’ armed with scythes. I was really unhappy with the look of the original model, so I turned the scythes upright and added a big drill. I think this looks much more dangerous.

Vehicles
